MeningoFinder® 2SMART

Multiplex qualitative real‑time PCR kit for the rapid and specific diagnosis of meningitis and encephalitis, capable of detecting and differentiating 22 pathogens (4 RNA viruses, 8 DNA viruses, 8 bacteria and 2 fungi) in cerebrospinal fluid samples.

Product Description

The MeningoFinder® 2SMART kit is a high‑complexity qualitative in vitro diagnostic test that provides rapid identification of the causative agents of meningitis and encephalitis, critical pathologies associated with high mortality and morbidity rates. Its multiplex capacity allows drastically reducing diagnosis time, optimising the use of specific antimicrobial or antiviral treatments at a very early stage, and significantly improving patient survival and prognosis.

Its workflow consists of a pre‑amplification and two 2SMART reactions with reading via melting curve analysis, offering a rapid, sensitive and robust diagnostic workflow.

Detected Pathogens

RNA viruses: Mumps virus, measles virus, human Enterovirus (EV) and Parechovirus. DNA viruses: Herpes simplex virus 1 (HSV-1), Herpes simplex virus 2 (HSV-2), Varicella‑zoster virus (VZV), Epstein‑Barr virus (EBV), Cytomegalovirus (CMV) and Human herpesvirus 6, 7 and 8 (HHV-6, HHV-7, HHV-8). Bacteria: Listeria monocytogenes, Staphylococcus aureus, Haemophilus influenzae, Streptococcus pneumoniae, Streptococcus agalactiae, Neisseria meningitidis, Borrelia burgdorferi sensu lato / Borrelia miyamotoi and Escherichia coli K1. Fungi: Cryptococcus neoformans sensu lato and Cryptococcus gattii sensu lato.

Key Advantages and Features

Rapid and accurate diagnosis: Allows unambiguous differentiation between viral, bacterial or fungal aetiologies in cerebrospinal fluid (CSF) samples. Broad target coverage: Identification of up to 22 pathogens of high clinical relevance in a single sample. Safety and Quality Control: Includes MS2 bacteriophage internal control (IC) to monitor the extraction process and the presence of inhibitors, plus specific amplification controls (AC1 and AC2) and positive controls (PC). Validated samples: Cerebrospinal fluid (CSF). Extraction methods validated using NuclisENS® easyMAG® and QIAamp® cador® Pathogen Mini Kit. Professional Use: Specifically designed for qualified personnel in clinical and microbiological research laboratories.
