Real‑time PCR kit for the quantitative detection of Pneumocystis jirovecii and identification of DHPS mutations related to sulfa resistance, directly from clinical respiratory samples.
Detailed Description
Pneumonia caused by Pneumocystis jirovecii is a relevant infection in immunocompromised individuals. Traditionally, it was diagnosed using microscopic techniques on bronchoalveolar lavage samples, but these require expertise and may have low sensitivity, especially if the fungal load is low. Currently, the use of real‑time PCR has improved diagnostic sensitivity, facilitating infection detection even in difficult cases.
The PneumoGenius® kit is a molecular tool designed for the quantitative detection of Pneumocystis jirovecii, the main pathogen causing pneumonia in immunocompromised patients, such as those with HIV/AIDS or undergoing organ transplantation. This assay also allows the identification of mutations in the DHPS gene that are associated with resistance to sulfamethoxazole treatments.
Real‑time PCR with PneumoGenius® enables quantification of Pneumocystis jirovecii in respiratory samples, such as bronchoalveolar lavage (BAL), and provides rapid assessment of pathogen load. Additionally, it includes detection of mutations in the DHPS gene, which can influence treatment choice, thereby improving therapeutic precision and patient prognosis.
This kit is compatible with several real‑time PCR systems and has been validated on clinical samples, ensuring reliable and consistent results.
